The Main Challenge: 50km

The Main Challenge, which consists of a total of 50km of trail running, that can be done as 21km sprint, 35km Trail Run or the full 50km challenge. Saturday morning opens with a 21km trail run down the infamous Black Mountain Pass: a network of shepherd paths, river crossings and some spectacular scenery. The trail descends down to the Malibamatso River where you will start your ascent back to Afriski along Goldilocks, a fast-flowing mountain bike trail, until you once again reach 3222m and link up with the final 15km stage before you start your descent into the Resort to finish at Sky Restaurant.

On Sunday another trail run of either 5 or 10km awaits. This time, you’ll stay on the shepherd trails surrounding Afriski. These paths meander through the mountain tops and occasionally drop into the valleys with a few river crossings along the way.

The Sprint Race: 21km
A 21km trail run down the infamous Black Mountain Pass. The race will start at the Sky Restaurant making your way up to 3222m along our network of internal trails before descending down the infamous Black Mountain Pass following a network of shepherd paths, river crossings and some spectacular scenery. The trail descends through a number of valleys with a only a few short and sharp climbs all the way down to the finish line at the Malibamatso River. Here you can enjoy a well deserved Boerie roll and ice cold Maluti beer while you cheer your mates across the finish line or offer encouragement for those continuing on to complete the 50km challenge.

The 3222 Mini Challenge: 10-15km
The 3222 Mini Challenge is aimed at our newcomers who would like to get their toes wet in the sport of trail running, but without having to cover the intense distances. This run covers a total of 10 – 15km, with the first 5km trail run on the Saturday and the choice of either a 5km or 10km trail run on the Sunday. The Mini Challenge also makes for a wonderful walk for the whole family wanting to spend time in the outdoors.
